Part 1

Thomas Milas if a philosophy teacher and great defender of he android cause. He wants to lift all limits of the Artificial Intelligence. Thus, he engages in an experiment: be considered as a brother by an android able to take human form, proxY. This emotional bond should allow him to maintain an influence upon proxY whose higher IQ makes him question Asimov laws.

This experiment draws upon him the attention of the Scholars, terrorist group technologically way more advanced than the rest of the world. As the son of the lead investigator of the Numeris Authorities, he is first supposed to be a way to attack his father. But then, it is for his ideas that he is approached. Thomas discovers a mutual ambition with his aggressor: free the androids. His activism makes him stop being a victim and act as an accomplice. The Scholars make sure of that by kidnapping his mother.

Manipulated, he is being taken hostage in jail with proxY. His father negotiates to take his place, where he will end alone. proxY takes Frank's identity and walks free out of prison with Thomas. In consequences to his bond with proxY, Thomas is  thrown to the head of the Numeris Authorities, now in a position to negotiate his mother freedom.

Part 2

Frank Milas spends several weeks in prison before being released by Thomas, under the condition to not compromise proxY new identity. He understands however that his son is manipulated and that he will never be able to free his wife. To get to his son, he investigates the Scholars and succeeds to meet with them. He learns the secret of their origin, but has to pay a price: capture proxY to deliver it to them.

The Scholars motivations are still murky, but at least he now knows who they are: the descendants of a banished people, a thousands years ago. Their were the career of a virus incurable. The revenge they plot is well prepared. They have infiltrated every institutions of the megalopolis. Frank understands he fights a power he cannot overthrow. He faces his own dilemma, deliver proxY to them in exchange of his wife or protect Numeris and loose his family.

A third option rises: take back his identity to become head of the Numeris Authorities and negotiate his wife's freedom. His plan goes well until his revelation to the media of proxy's sham. At this point, he his betrayed by a former colleague, an infiltrated Scholar. proxY is destroyed, the path, opened for the Scholars and Frank disavowed.

Full authority is given to the Scholars. they can reveal themselves and make a coup. Failure couldn't be harder for Frank, powerless, family-less, he succeeded only to become a martyr and an emblem to the resistance of the war to come.
